We began work with Newcastle United in April 2016 having been appointed to manage the rebuild of the main club website, nufc.co.uk.
We partnered with the Stadion platform for the project, which launched in December 2016. You can judge it for yourself- fan feedback has been overall extremely positive (honestly, it has- we’ve got the feedback forms to prove it). The site was also nominated for a SportTech Award in March 2017, and we’ve written up the reasons why.
The focus in Year 1 was to deliver digital publisher basics to a very high level, setting it apart from almost every other club site: structured mark-up on fixtures, Accelerated Mobile Page format (more on that here), Facebook Instant Article format, Chromecast on video content, optimised social sharing (and tracking of that), dynamic open-graph tags and high accessibility standards. Seven League continue to manage the ongoing development of the site, and Year 2 will see further innovation in feature developments.
Building websites may not be a traditional Seven League service but it’s an area we have plenty of experience in, and the NUFC site is several tech steps ahead of the vast majority of club properties.
Since then, we’ve overseen the integration of a single-sign-on system between nufc.co.uk and the club’s new ticketing site (launched May 2018) and continue to support the club on their digital product roadmap, as well as other areas like analytics and commercial content.
