Yesterday was the hottest June day since 1976 and we could not think of a better way to spend the evening than escaping the heat with some of our friends and clients at the Seven League Summer Pub Quiz.
Teams from the NBA, The FA, Premiership Rugby, England Netball, Tottenham Hotspur, O2, PlayOn, MCC and the ICC were ready and eager to show their knowledge.
Quiz master Richard Ayers set the ball rolling with Sporting Logos, covering teams across codes and countries.
Game shows, tennis champions, number one singles and Bond films were some of the subjects of our next round – Connections.
No one would have thought it possible, but Seven League’s resident movie buff David Brake’s Fiendish Film Round was even more difficult this time around. Eighty-six films were edited together into a 90 second clip – the name of the game? Identify as many as you can in just three viewings. Blink and you’d miss it.
Artistic skills were put to the test as teams were asked to recreate their logos. While some teams aimed for a true-to-life depiction, others opted for something a little more… creative.
We ‘Wombled’ our way through tube stations, spotted celebrities and identified international stadia.
Pub Quiz classic Musical Magic gave those falling behind a chance to bridge the gap, but it’s fair to say the skills of the paper-plane pilots in the Flights of Fancy round left much to be desired.
A valiant effort from ‘Sweet FA’ (The FA) in the first half, but sadly they were unable to defend their title. ‘Quizee Rascals’ (Spurs) put in a consistent performance before dropping away towards the end.
After 13 rounds of top-class competition ‘Prem Rugby Netball Select’ (a hybrid team of England Netball and Premiership Rugby) claimed the top prize, pipping ‘NBA’ at the post with a well-earned 88 points and taking home a lovely bottle of champagne for their efforts.
A huge thank you to all those who took part. It was a fantastic evening all round. We can’t wait for the next one.
