‘Twas a cold, crisp November evening. No better place to be in that case than all cosied up in a warm Bloomsbury pub taking part in the annual Seven League Pub Quiz.
Seven teams did battle from The FA, NBA, Tottenham Hotspur (x2), Great British Racing, UFC and the MCC – all sending their sharpest minds to win the coveted 7L Pub Quiz crown.
The opening round proved a toughie. Teams, without the assistance of their Seven League counterparts, were tested on Seven League staff trivia. Few would have known that one 7L member once starred alongside Charlize Theron or that snail farming was at one stage a career path for another member of the team.
Fortunately for our guests, the more traditional rounds soon followed (e.g. capital cities, music and flags), but they were also complemented by some Seven League specials (i.e. digital knowledge, stadiums and sporting logos).
Despite being absent on the night, our very own David Brake got the room scratching their heads with his Fiendish Film round; a 1 minute, 10 second video, featuring clips from 92 films. The task? Name all 92. Easy. Huge credit must go to the UFC team (Quiz Akabusi) who managed to name 70 of the 92. Surely enough to take them to the top of the leader board, you might think.
The Paper Airplane round was also hotly contested and featured a wide array of aviation creations. Thanks to a fine throw from Will Roe, the MCC team (named Johnny Cash) saw their plane reach the other side of the room – deservedly taking the 5 points that were on offer.
It was neck and neck heading into the last round with only 11.5 points separating first to last. The task was to name 44 celebrities and icons we’ve sadly lost this year (all in a mock-up of the Sgt Pepper album cover). Thanks to a top mark of 29 for the round, the FA team (named We Know FA) and our very own Andy sealed victory by three points from the NBA team (Tougher than B) and deservedly took home the bubbly on offer.
Thanks to all the team who took part. See you again next year.
